While the Academy Awards urge the public to reflect on the year's triumphs in filmmaking, the Golden Raspberry Awards serve as a gentle reminder that there were just as many blunders to ponder. As a result of the large number of critically derided films released in 2016, the Razzie Awards decided to add a sixth nomination space to each category this year to ensure that no one felt left out.
Since their inception in 1981, the Razzies have awarded "Worst in Film" honors to hundreds of Hollywood stars. Some of these actors have even won Oscars, so that's not to imply they're all constantly bad. As we all know, even the most talented actors have their moments. The actors on this list are those who have won the most Razzie Awards. Many actors have not turned up to collect their awards. Therefore the term "taken home" is only a phrase. As far as acting categories go, we're looking at everything from Worst Screen Combo to Worst New Star. Listed here are the fifteen actors who have won the most Razzie Awards.
Many performers have won two Razzie Awards, but John Travolta is the only one with nine nominations, making him the top dog. The actor's career has seen its share of highs and lows. There is no denying Travolta's brilliance, but his weakest performances are generally the product of an uneven script. The actor was nominated for Worst Actor several times in the 1980s and early 1990s, but he didn't win the award until 2001 with his performance in Battlefield Earth. Travolta's portrayal as the enormous humanoid extraterrestrial Tell in the film was the worst of his career, and the picture was a travesty. When Battlefield Earth was named Worst Picture of 2010 — knocking out Freddy, Gigli, I Know Who Killed Me, and Swept Away — it serves as a stark reminder of how horrible the picture is. To add insult to injury, Battlefield Earth got him the Worst Screen Couple Award, which he shared with "everyone who was on set at the same time."
Even though he has only won three Razzie Awards, Will Smith is batting a thousand. While making Wild West in 1999, Smith and Kevin Kline were nominated for their performance as a screen couple for their roles as the worst of the worst in the industry. The Razzie for Worst Picture went to Wild West, too.
Smith went 14 years without being nominated for a Razzie award, despite appearing in such films as Ali, The Pursuit of Happyness, and I Am Legend during that period. However, in M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth, the actor reunited with his kid for the second time in 2013. Critics savaged the performance of Smith and his son, calling it uninteresting, overwrought, and a huge step down from their magnetism in The Pursuit of Happyness. Will and Jaden Smith both received two Razzie Awards for their roles in the film.
Just My Luck, The Canyons, and Scary Movie 5 have all nominated Lindsay Lohan for a Razzie Award. Still, her inclusion on this list is primarily due to her role as twins in I Know Who Killed Me. Lohan was hospitalized for dehydration and heat exhaustion while filming, then had her appendix surgically removed before beginning a 30-day stint at a rehabilitation clinic to recover. I Know Who Killed Me was panned by reviewers, who dubbed it one of the worst films of the year and the decade, adding insult to injury for star Kate Winslet. Even at the box office, I Know Who Killed Me failed to recoup its investment. Lindsay Lohan was tied for Worst Actress of the Year with two parts in the film. It wasn't all bad news for her: She also won the third Razzie for Worst Screen Couple, which she and herself shared.
It is undeniable that Sharon Stone is the only model-turned-actress who has made a serious commitment to acting. Her performances in Basic Instinct and Casino are among her best. She is, however, not completely immune to the occasional terrible film or a less than stellar performance. Sharon Stone has been nominated for nine Razzie Awards in the previous thirty years and one Oscar, an Emmy, and a few Golden Globes (one of which she won for Casino).
In 1995, for her roles in Intersection and The Specialist, she earned the award for Worst Actress, and for her on-screen partnership with Sylvester Stallone in The Specialist won Worst Screen Couple (more on him later, of course). In 2006, Stone earned the award for Worst Actress once more for her portrayal of Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct 2, an unneeded sequel.
Kevin Costner and the Razzie Awards had a rough decade in the '90s. Dances with Wolves, which won Costner an Oscar nomination, was followed by a string of bad movies. As a start, Costner was named Worst Actor for his portrayal of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves' outlaw hero, even though film reviewers widely panned the picture. Following The Bodyguard, Costner was nominated for Worst Actor in 1996 for Waterworld and in 1998 for The Postman, which he also directed. However, in the early 2000s, he was nominated for three more films, including 3000 Miles to Graceland, for which he was nominated again. Costner has been nominated for 10 Oscars, but he has only won three, and it has been 15 years since he was nominated for a Razzie.
His filmography is rife with bad movies, and the Razzies have taken note. Encino Man, Shore's breakout role in the 1993 picture, presently has a 16 percent acceptance rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is surprisingly high for a Pauly Shore film! Critics aren't exactly wowed by Pauly Shore's 1996 Bio-Dome, with one calling it "excellent because it ruined Pauly Shore's career." For his performance in Bio-Dome, Shore shared the Razzie Award for Worst Actor of the Year with Tom Arnold. While Shore took home the award for the worst new star of the 1990s, he lost out to Sylvester Stallone for worst actor in a century film. In recent years, the Shore has shifted his concentration to stand-up comedy and lesser films, which has kept him off the Razzie radar.
Despite Affleck escaping the Worst Actor Award, Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck won the Razzie for Worst Screen Combo for their roles in Batman v Superman. Aside from Johnny Depp in Alice Through the Looking Glass and Tyler Perry in Boo! A Madea Halloween, the pair won out the competition with their eye-catching costumes. Although he was nominated for his roles in Daredevil, Gigli, and Paycheck, Affleck did win the Worst Actor award in 2004 for his performance in that film. As for Gigli, Affleck and then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez earned another Worst Screen Combo Award. Sadly, Affleck returned to the Razzies just two years after receiving the Razzie Redeemer Award. He won this prize because of his outstanding efforts in Argo and Gone Girl, erasing his previous roles.
Since her last film role was in 1999, Pia Zadora has appeared in only a handful of films, yet she has piled up a slew of Razzie nominations and wins. The Razzie Award for Worst Actress and Worst New Star went to Zadora's breakout appearance in the 1982 picture Butterfly. It is widely believed that her billionaire husband may have paid Hollywood Foreign Press members to grant Zadora a Golden Globe for her portrayal of the same character. She received the Razzie for Worst Actress again for her role in 1983's The Lonely Lady, which also garnered five Razzies that year. Zadora won the Worst New Star of the Decade Award, beating major music stars Madonna and Prince, only from these two flicks. It's no surprise that Zadora has received a lot less negative attention when she focuses on her music career.
Bo Derek is most known for her role as Beverly in the 1995 comedy Tommy Boy, opposite Chris Farley and David Spade. Derek was a well-known and controversial sex symbol of the 1980s before the filthy comedy was even aired. Tarzan the Ape Man and Bolero were nominated for Razzies, featuring a scantily clothed Derek posturing for the camera rather than delivering a compelling performance. Bolero took a five-year hiatus from acting after Derek earned her an X-rating and the Razzie Award for Worst Picture and Worst Actress. Sadly, her comeback effort, Ghosts Can't Do It, was criticized for ripping off the Patrick Swayze/Demi Moore classic Ghost. Ghosts Can't Do It won the Razzies for Worst Picture of the Year, the Razzie Awards, John Derek (Bo Derek's spouse), Donald Trump, and Bo Derek. Bo Derek took home the Razzie Award for Worst Actress of the Decade in 1990!
Despite being nominated for her first Razzie in 1992 for her performances in The Butcher's Wife and Nothing But Trouble, Demi Moore only won the award for Worst Actress in Striptease in 1997. For her role in the adult comedy, Moore received a salary of $12.5 million, making her the highest-paid actress in cinema history. Critics panned Striptease, and it was even nominated for a Razzie Award for Worst Film of the Year. After her win in G.I. Jane, where she played a Navy officer who must go through a rigorous training program to establish that the armed services should be gender-neutral, Moore received the Razzie Award for Worst Actress again the following year. Mixed reviews from reviewers boosted the film's box office take. Moore was nominated for a Razzie Award in 2004 for her supporting role as a former Angel called Madison Lee in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.
Only Eddie Murphy has won the Razzies for Worst Actor, Worst Supporting Actor, and Worst Supporting Actress for the same picture three times in a row, and that's quite an accomplishment. When you are one of the creators (and a few of the stars) of Norbit, you get what you deserve. The 2007 comedy was panned by critics confused by Murphy's performance after seeing him in Dreamgirls just a few months before a possible return performance. Murphy famously walked out when Alan Arkin won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. When the Academy Awards were being televised, Norbit had been nominated for Best Makeup but had also lost earlier in the show. The Adventures of Pluto Nash, Meet Dave, I Spy, and Norbit earned Eddie Murphy nominations for the Razzie Awards for Worst Actor of the Decade in 2010.
On the other hand, Paris Hilton hasn't been able to rehabilitate herself in the same way as the other actresses on this list. Hilton has won all five of her Razzie acting nominations, including Worst Actress of the Decade for House of Wax, The Hottie & the Nottie, and Repo! The Genetic Opera. Model, singer, socialite, DJ, and author are just some of Hilton's many hats over her career. As a result of the popularity of her reality show The Simple Life, Paris Hilton began acting professionally in the early 2000s. Her performance still lacked conviction, even if she had roles like "Girl on the Beach," "Female Club-Goer," and "Barbie." Despite Kim Kardashian's success as a reality star, Hilton earned the Razzie for Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress in 2008. There have been no further Razzie nominations for Hilton since she has only appeared in a handful of TV movies while also pursuing a singing career.
